The Lynds Twins
Gatekeeper has been a major force in the growth of our amazing sport. Most recently, they created the Facebook group Gatekeeper Mobile where patrons can upload their own video content, and it is there that I came across the Lynds Twins. Identical twin sisters that both crush on the course? I immediately knew they had to be featured on the blog. I reached out to Morgan and Jordan Lynds to share their journey so far in disc golf.
This sisters hail from Palm City, Florida, and are 25 years old. Morgan is seven minutes older, but according to Jordan, “You would think she is seven years older, or my second mom!” The girls both rock similar styles, especially on the course, so telling them apart can be difficult. Morgan is just a bit taller if that helps.
The girls grew up playing a wide range of sports. “We grew up playing sports like tennis, softball, and volleyball. We also love to fish, especially catching bass and snook”, Morgan says. When they saw some people playing disc golf in a park near their home, “We decided to try it. We bought a starter set around 3 years ago,” Jordan says. “We love to travel and play new courses and see all of the beautiful parks.”
The girls didn’t really get serious until a couple years ago, where they both started to rapidly improve. They entered their first tournament, The Black Water Open, in June 2021. The girls crushed the recreation division, with Jordan taking first with a massive -17 and Morgan right behind her shooting -15. Beating third place by 16 strokes. They quickly moved up divisions to Intermediate, and then Advanced, where they continue to dominate with the girls swapping podium places but never finishing worse than third. Their accolades have landed them on the Team Infinite Roster.
What make these two such a dynamic duo is the similarities in their playing style. Morgan says, “We are pretty equal on the course, but you just never know who is going to have a better day.” According to the girls, “Morgan is forehand dominant, but working on her backhand, and Jordan is the backhand specialist who is working on her forehand.” But when you watch their highlight videos on YouTube, it’s nearly impossible to say who’s the better player.
Like so many of us, we don’t just play the game, we also love to watch the pros, and the Lynds are no different. Morgan and Jordan both say Paul McBeth is their favorite professional, and attribute much of their progress to watching him on YouTube. But even more influential is their mother, Tonya Mydock Lynds, the biggest driving force in their success so far. “Our mom is at every tournament, is very supportive, and is always behind the camera”, they say. “She used to play in the beginning, but now just enjoys watching us play.” Watch any of their videos, and you’ll hear mom cheering them on. What could be more inspiring than that?
With so much talent, and the explosive growth of the women’s side of the sport, I asked if the twins have any aspirations of turning pro. Their plan is to, “Go pro as soon as we get more consistent and add a little more distance.” In the meantime, they will continue to dominate in their region. Their biggest event this year will be at the 2022 Throw Down the Mountain, a multi-weekend event in Brooksville, Florida. The girls will be playing in the FA1 division for weekend 3, and the FPO division for weekend 4. They also plan on playing as many tournaments as they can this summer.
The future surely looks bright for these young phenoms. Their immediate goals are to “Continue to improve and go pro as soon as possible. We are also trying to grow our YouTube channel to help with that goal.” They are also pretty active on Instagram, with Morgan and Jordan having their own accounts.
Many young adults may find themselves at a loss as to what helps them maintain focus. Social media, peer pressure, school, and work can all be distractions when you are trying to achieve something great. So what is the driving force pushing the Lynds twins to succeed? They look to scripture for inspiration. “Whatever you do, do it all for the Glory of God – 1 Corinthians 10:31.” You can count on that kind of inspiration will help these two ladies succeed in everything they do.
There are many powerful sibling teams already on the Disc Golf Pro Tour; Valerie and Alexis Mandujano as well as Haley and Aria Castruita come to mind. Heather Young is the only one on tour right now, but she has several sisters with touring potential as they get older. Add Morgan and Jordan Lynds to this list of rising stars, as I am confident we’ll be seeing them on the Pro Tour very soon.
