Gatekeeper Goes Down Under!

In the NFL, they call it the ‘World Championship’. In the MLB, it’s the ‘World Series of Baseball’. The NBA? Same thing. But there is one sport that truly is a global phenomenon, and that sport is Disc Golf. There is a disc golf course on every continent on the planet, including Antarctica. Coupled with the global presence of all the media coverage we have now and it’s easy to say that if you love disc golf, it is a great time to be alive!

Why do I bring this up? Because the boys from Gatekeeper Media are heading down under! Derek Scull, President, and Owner, along with COO Chris German will be taking their media savvy team to ‘Straya’ to cover the “Biggest Event in Australian Disc Golf History” this November. Derek says, “I’ve been there before so it’s nice to revisit. I was last there in 2006”. But this time it’s to help bring Australian Disc Golf to the world stage. And they’re going need your help, so please support by purchasing one of these epic “The Gang Goes Down Under” discs.

The Australian Disc Golf Championships will be held from November 18-20, 2022, at Tunnel Ridge Ranch in Landsborough, Queensland. According to the ADGC press release, “Disc golf in Australia has seen incredible growth in player numbers over the last few years and demand for competitive events has never been higher.” There is certainly a great number of courses there. “The Australian Disc Golf Championships sees the very best players from across Australia come together to compete for the Australian Championship title. The Australian Disc Golf Championships is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) and Australian Disc Golf (ADG). The Australian Disc Golf Championships is sanctioned as a Major tier event by the ADG.” You can bet players like Luke Bayne, Dylan Feldman, Patty Robinson, and many more will be fighting for this coveted title. On the ladies’ side we’ll see Leah Manning, Jasmin Barr, Claudine Baker and Megan O’Reilly amongst the top competitors. From the USA there will be Drew Gibson, Jennifer Allen, and future Hall of Famer Scott Stokley in attendance.

The Tunnel Ridge Ranch has been the host venue for the annual Sunshine Coast Disc Golf Open since 2018. A private facility, the ranch also hosts school, youth, and holiday camps, as well as church ministry and horse experiences year-round. This year the ranch will be transformed into a championship level course and retreat. Players and competitors are in for a special experience, as there will be a plethora of activities, day, and night, to enjoy.

The two main sponsors for this year’s championship are The Flying Disc Store and Recreation Activity Design. The FDS is, “Australia’s largest selection of flying discs for disc golf, ultimate frisbee, recreational discs, and dog discs.” And RAD is, “The premiere disc golf course design company in the Southern Hemisphere.” These sponsors are raising the bar this year, “Supplying the pro-grade RAD ACE baskets for competition, an epic and truly special players pack valued at over $90 and offering retail discounts for competing players.” In addition, the two sponsors are spearheading a fundraising event for the ADGC 2022 to raise additional cash prizes for the event.
