Gatekeeper Resolutions Day 10: Understand Where Your Disc Will Break And Finish

Day 10! Okay, let’s go back to the concept from day 6 where we were making a disc break before or after a pole and complicate it. Find a football field goal that you can throw through from the side. A soccer goal can also work but it’s a little harder to tell if you’re passing between the verticals.

  1. Start by throwing a simple hyzer shape from a distance where it’s naturally beginning to break into the field goal. On day 6 we were focusing on just the part of the flight to pass immediately in front of or behind an obstacle. Now we’re focusing on getting the break to match the gap. You can shift your starting point around in order to vary the difficulty, angle, or power required--but I advise trying to let your body naturally figure out the shape of the throw rather than deliberately comparing one throw versus another.

  2. Level two, set up a target (a chair, your bag, etc) about 30-50 feet beyond and to the side of the goalpost. Now you’ve got both a target and a path-dependent intermediate target. You win the game when you can focus on getting the break to match the gap, while also optimizing landing at the target.
