Gatekeeper Resolutions Day 5: STARTING Your Disc at Particular Aim Points

Day 5! We’re going to use the same kind of setup as day 4. So go back to that same open field and target, and bring the same stack of discs as you did yesterday. The difference is that instead of thinking about where the disc is going to FINISH we’re going to focus on where it STARTS. Continue using the same target, but ignore it except as a data point. Pick a point on the horizon. A house, a tree, a lamppost, a pretty cloud.

  1. Really focus on it, because you’re going to throw the disc at that aim point, and try to learn what angle, power, spin, and whatever else it takes to get the disc to finish at the target.

  2. It’s pretty easy to use yesterday’s method when the basket is visible or unobstructed. But when you can’t see your target, or have to adjust for wind, OB, or other obstacles, sometimes it requires a different aiming method.

  3. When you feel like you’ve mastered one aim point, find a harder one: one that requires different distance, or an anhyzer, or a different spin, or starting the shot at a really different height.

  4. You “win” the game when you can focus purely on your aiming point and replicate a shot several times in a row.
